In 1907, William H. Harvey, at the age of 48, made his way to Summerland from England. He purchased a 10 acre piece of property from James Ritchie which was used to build this home and plant fruit trees. In 1908 he went back to England to bring back the family and to start his new ventures as a businessman and an orchardist. He worked on the local Bank of Montreal in 1917 (corner of Main and Kelly) with architect Samuel Mac Lure and also built the first central school in West Summerland in 1911.

This Photo was taken in 1907, the same year the house was built. The landscaping has changed dramatically since then but the look of the front of the house has remained more or less the same.

This photo taken in the 1920's is William Harvey with his granddaughter seated on his lap. He is sitting on the concrete steps leading to the road. To this day, the ancestors still occasionally visit their ‘home away from home.’
